The Shopify connection publishes generated articles to your store's blog through Shopify's Admin API. Like every connection, it publishes drafts by default until you switch it live.
What to know before you start
Connect it when the project is a Shopify store and the content strategy targets the store's own blog — which for e-commerce SEO it usually should. Articles that link to collections and products build the store's authority where it converts.
Shopify no longer hands out an access token for a new custom app. You create a small app in Shopify's Dev Dashboard, and we connect with its Client ID and Client secret. The connect form shows each screen as a short video beside each step, and the whole guide runs about a minute.
Connect Shopify
To connect Shopify:
- In your Shopify admin, open
Settings→Apps→Develop apps, then clickBuild apps in Dev Dashboard. It opens in a new tab. - Click
Apps, thenCreate app. Under Start from Dev Dashboard, name itSearchBlueprint Blogand clickCreate. - In
Versions→Create version, typeread_content,write_contentinto Scopes, then click Release and confirm. - Open
App settingsin the app's sidebar. Copy the Client ID and the Client secret. - Install the app on your store: the app's
Overview→Install app→Install. Creating it is not enough: until it is installed, nothing can publish. Shopify shows no confirmation; Installs on the Overview reads 1 when it worked. - In your project's
Publishingtab, choose Shopify, enter your store name, and paste the Client ID and Client secret.
Your store name is the part after /store/ in admin.shopify.com/store/your-store, or the part before .myshopify.com.
Older stores with an existing legacy custom app can paste its shpat_ token instead. Shopify stopped creating those apps on 1 January 2026.
What each article carries
- The title, the body and its images.
- A cover image. Shopify copies it into its own CDN, so it does not depend on us.
- An excerpt, which your blog page shows as the teaser.
- The SEO title and meta description from the article's Meta tags card. They land in the post's
Search engine listing. A field you leave empty is not sent, so whatever you typed in Shopify stays. - Article and FAQ structured data, when you switch them on in the website's settings.
Publishing an article again updates the same post. Its address never changes on an update, so links and rankings stay put.
Which blog it publishes to
- A store with one blog publishes there.
- A store with several blogs publishes to the one with the most published posts, not Shopify's empty default "News" blog.
- The choice stays fixed after that. Testing the connection again never moves it.
Limits and usage
- The connection belongs to your app. Uninstalling the app ends it.
- One connection per store.
- Shopify themes decide the final look. Headings and images arrive correctly; styling is the theme's job.
- Pushing SEO titles onto product and collection pages also needs the
read_productsandwrite_productsscopes on the app.
If something isn't working
"This app is not installed on the store yet." The app exists but is not installed. Open it in the Dev Dashboard, install it on your store, then test the connection again.
Shopify rejects the credentials. The Client ID and Client secret must come from the same app, and the secret must not have been rotated since you copied it.
The app was made in another organization. Shopify only lets an app connect to a store in its own organization. Create the app from this store's admin, signed in as its owner, using step 1.
You get 403 errors. The app is missing a scope. Add it to a new version of the app, release it, and approve the update on your store if Shopify asks. We ask Shopify for a fresh key on every publish, so there is nothing to re-paste.
"Shopify says this store is unavailable." The store is frozen over an unpaid bill, paused, or its trial has ended. Reopen it from your Shopify admin, then test the connection again.
The SEO title or meta description did not save. The article still published, and the activity log says which field missed. Set it under Search engine listing on the blog post in Shopify.
The post exists in admin but 404s on the storefront. It's still a draft, or the blog is not linked in your navigation. Set the post live in Shopify and check the blog's menu link.
