Change SEO titles and descriptions in Framer

Where Framer keeps a page's title, description, H1, URL, image alt text and search engine switch, for static and CMS pages.

Open in the appUpdated 2026-10-19

Framer gives your whole site a default title and description, and each page can override them in its own Page Settings. Here's where each change from your On-Page Mapping goes.

Every change below goes live only when you publish or republish your site.

Change a page's title and description

To give one page its own title and description:

  1. Open your project settings.
  2. Under Page Settings in the left panel, select the page.
  3. Paste the new meta title into Title.
  4. Paste the new description into Page Description.
  5. Click Save, then republish your site.

The site-wide defaults live in Site Settings, as Site title and Site description. They apply to every page you haven't overridden.

Change a CMS page

A CMS page sets one pattern for every item in the collection. To use your own wording per item:

  1. In your CMS, add one Plain Text field for the title and one for the description, then fill both in for each item.
  2. Open the CMS page's Page Settings.
  3. In Title, enter a variable such as {{Title}}. You can mix it with fixed text, like {{Title}} - Blog.
  4. In Page description, enter {{Description}}.
  5. Save and republish.

Change the H1

Framer gives each text style a tag, such as h1, h2 or p. To make one piece of text the page's H1, select it and set its tag to h1 in the accessibility panel in the right sidebar. Framer advises a clear main heading on every page.

Change the URL

To change a page's URL, hover over it in the Pages panel, open the three-dot menu and choose Customize the page URL. Framer won't send visitors from the old address to the new one by itself, so add a redirect when you change a page that's already live:

  1. Go to Site Settings > Hosting > Redirects.
  2. Enter the old URL and the new one.
  3. Publish or update your site.

Add image alt text

Framer's help names two places. Select the image and click Fill in the Styles panel to open a pop-up with an alt text box, or add it to the image frame in the accessibility panel. For a CMS image, open the item in the CMS and click Choose Image. For an image inside formatted text, click the image to open its alt text pop-up.

To keep a page out of search results:

  1. Open your site in Framer and go to the page. Click the gear icon in the top toolbar to open Page Settings.
  2. Find Search engines and turn it off.
  3. Republish your site.

Framer then adds a noindex robots tag to that page only.

Check it worked

Run the published page through the free Meta tag checker. It shows the title, description, H1 and robots tag the page serves now. Framer also points to its Link Preview tool for how the title and description look on Google and social sites. When the change is live, tick Mark done on the page's row in On-Page Mapping.

Limits and usage

  • A custom domain needs a paid plan.
  • Redirects only work for paths on your current domain.
  • Changing a page's path doesn't update an existing redirect that points to it. Update the redirect by hand.
