Change SEO titles and descriptions in Wix

Where Wix keeps a page's title tag, meta description, H1, URL slug, image alt text and index switch, for pages, blog posts and products.

Open in the appUpdated 2026-10-19

Wix keeps a page's title tag and meta description in its SEO settings, apart from the page name you see in the editor. By default Wix builds the title from the page name and your site name, like Home | My Site, and leaves the description blank. Here's where each change from your On-Page Mapping goes.

Wix has three editors, and their labels differ. The steps below use the Wix Editor and note where Wix Studio and the Wix Harmony Editor differ.

Change a page's title and meta description

To change a page:

  1. In your editor, click Pages & Menu on the left. In Wix Studio, click Pages.
  2. Click the More Actions icon next to the page.
  3. Click SEO basics.
  4. Paste the new meta title under Title tag (title in search results).
  5. Paste the new description under Meta description (description in search results).
  6. Click Publish at the top right.

In the Wix Harmony Editor, open the Page dropdown at the top left, click More Actions next to the page, then SEO and accessibility > SEO. Click Set title tag, paste the title and click Apply. Do the same with Add meta description.

Your homepage works the same way, from its own More Actions icon. Wix suggests a title under 60 characters and a description of 50 to 160.

Change a blog post or product

To change a blog post, go to Blog in your site's dashboard, click Edit next to the post, click the SEO tab on the left, then Basics. Change the Title tag, Meta description and URL slug, then click Publish.

To change a product, go to Products in your dashboard and open the product. Click Edit SEO Settings under Marketing & SEO, change the fields on the Basics tab, and save. Wix suggests product titles of 60 characters at most and descriptions of 156 at most.

Change the H1

The H1 is a text element on the page, separate from the title tag. To change which text is the H1 in the Wix Editor:

  1. Select the text element.
  2. Click Edit Text, then SEO & accessibility.
  3. Choose H1 from the Choose HTML tag dropdown.

In Wix Studio, Edit Text opens the Inspector panel, where the setting is HTML tag. In the Wix Harmony Editor, use the Text styles dropdown on the action bar. On a blog post, the post title is the H1.

Change the URL

Change a page's slug under URL slug in its SEO basics panel. Wix adds a 301 redirect from the old address for you on editor pages, product and category pages, and a few other page types.

Blog posts are the exception. After you change a post's slug, add the redirect yourself: go to SEO & GEO in your dashboard, then Tools and settings > URL Redirect Manager > + New Redirect > Single redirect.

Add image alt text

Click the image, click the Settings icon, and describe it under What's in the image?. In the Wix Harmony Editor, the field is Accessibility > Alt text. In a gallery, each image's title is its alt text unless you change it.

From Wix: Optimizing your images for SEO

In the page's SEO basics panel, turn off Let search engines index this page, then publish your site. Blog posts and products have the same switch in their own Basics tab. On a product, it also hides the product from your site's own search.

Check it worked

The SEO basics panel shows a Preview on Google. After you publish, run the live page through the free Meta tag checker to see the title, description, H1 and robots tag it serves now. When the change is live, tick Mark done on the page's row in On-Page Mapping.

Limits and usage

  • 301 redirects only work on a custom domain.
  • A site can have up to 5,000 redirects.
  • To change the pattern for every page of one type, such as all blog posts, use SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > SEO Settings in your dashboard.
