Control internal links in generated articles

Learn how the writer links to your real pages, what the 1-to-6 slider does, and why the limit is enforced outside the model.

Generated articles link to other pages on your site. When you generate with a website selected and that domain has a completed audit, the writer links to real crawled pages — it chooses from URLs that actually exist on your site, not paths it invents. The internal links slider sets how many links the article should carry, from 1 to 6.

The limit is enforced after generation as a hard rule: the finished article is trimmed to your selected count, so the number you set is the number you get.

Choose a count

Three links suits most articles — it's the default. Go higher on long pillar content that genuinely references many of your pages; go lower on short posts where six links would read as stuffing.

Set the slider

To control internal links:

  1. In Generate, pick your website so the writer knows your real pages.
  2. Set the internal links slider (1-6).
  3. Generate. The audit summary under the draft reports how many internal links were used.

Note that without a website selected, a manual textarea appears instead — paste the URLs you want considered, one per line.

Confirm the count

Links in the draft point at real URLs from your site's crawl. The generation summary counts them, so you can confirm the slider was honored without hunting through the text.

Limits and usage

  • The slider range is 1 to 6. The enforced count is a maximum — a short article may legitimately carry fewer if there aren't enough relevant targets.
  • Link targets come from the domain's latest audit crawl. A site with no completed audit has no link pool — run an audit first, or use the manual textarea.

If something isn't working

Links point at pages that no longer exist. The link pool reflects the last crawl. If you've restructured since, re-run the audit so the pool refreshes.

Fewer links than the slider asked for. The writer only links where a target is relevant to the sentence — a niche article on a small site can exhaust its good targets early. That's preferable to forced, irrelevant links.

A generated article invented a relative path. This is exactly what the real-target system prevents. It happens only in the no-website manual mode with an empty textarea — pick the website, or paste real URLs.
