Generate an article

Learn the difference between standard generation and score-gated Skyscraper mode, what each costs you, and when the difference is worth it.

Open in the appUpdated 2026-09-24

Give the generator a target keyword and it researches, writes, and returns a full article with internal links, images, and structured data, using what it already knows about your business from the setup wizard.

There are two modes, and the difference is real.

Choose a mode

ModeWhat happensUse it when
StandardOne draft, one pass. Fast.Volume, or a topic where good enough is fine.
Skyscraper (score-gated)Researches the current top results, finds what they miss, drafts, then scores the draft against the real content-score engine and revises until it clears the bar or runs out of revisions. The page has to compete: money pages, pillar articles, anything you'd be embarrassed to see ranked below a competitor.

Skyscraper takes several times longer and costs more, because it does several passes plus live search research. It isn't a stylistic setting. It's a different pipeline.

Which model writes it?

Each website picks one model for every article it writes, under Settings, then Content engine, then AI models. The default is Claude Sonnet 5 + Real-Time SERP, which researches the live search results before it drafts. Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Terra cost more, while GPT-5.6 Luna and Fast draft cost less. The Generate page quotes the price for your website's choice before you run it. Skyscraper mode always writes on Claude, so a GPT choice falls back to the default there, and the price says so.

Generate an article

To generate an article:

  1. Open Generate.
  2. Enter the target keyword, or pick a page from your content plan.
  3. Choose the mode.
  4. Set the internal link count if you want more or fewer than the default. SearchBlueprint also enforces the selected limit after generation.
  5. Generate. The article streams as it's written.

From a website's content calendar, you can also click to write a planned item, which queues the job instead of generating in the browser. A confirmation shows the article, its keyword and the cost against your balance first. Researched articles don't fit in a single request, so calendar items are written by a background worker and appear when done. You get an email when a queued article is written or goes live, and another if it fails, with the reason.

Download or publish it

Every finished article downloads as .md, .html or .docx. The Word file keeps real headings, lists, links and tables, so it opens ready to edit or send to a client.

Before you publish, set an author. The byline comes from the author profile in the website's settings. If there's no author yet, the publish confirmation says No author is set for this website and links to Add the author. You can still publish, but the article goes out with no byline and no author markup, which leaves search engines and answer engines with no named expert. Save the author from the article you have open and its placeholder byline fills in with the name, and every article written after that carries it. Articles already saved with the placeholder are not updated; they show no byline until you edit one in. A byline you typed yourself is never overwritten.

Read the score

Skyscraper articles show their score. The gate is the same scoring engine used everywhere else, so a 90+ here means the same thing as a 90+ on an audited page.

If the pipeline runs out of revisions before clearing the bar, it keeps the best draft it produced and tells you the score. It doesn't silently return the last attempt, and it doesn't inflate the number by skipping checks an empty draft would fail.

Limits and usage

  • A standard article costs 3 credits on the default model and Skyscraper costs 5. Your website's model moves both. Plans & credits has the full price list.
  • A run that fails before it finishes isn't charged.
  • A generation request has a hard time budget of slightly under 5 minutes. Skyscraper manages its research, draft, and revision loop inside that.
  • Skyscraper allows a maximum of 4 revisions.
  • Citations default on for blog posts and off for money pages.
  • Internal links are limited to your chosen count.

If something isn't working

The article is about the wrong business. The business context comes from the setup wizard. Fix the description in the website's settings and regenerate.

Internal links point at pages that don't exist. This is what the link limit and the real link targets in the revision prompt exist to prevent. If you see it, report it through Support with the article. It means the link targets didn't reach the model.

A calendar item says "Writing" and never finishes. The job failed and should have reverted the card to To Do with a "Write failed" note and emailed you the reason. If it's stuck instead, tell us the item.

The draft didn't clear the score bar. Read the failing checks. They usually point at length or internal links. Re-running rarely fixes a structural shortfall.
