Wix SEO, step by step: where each setting lives
Nine settings in the order to change them, where each one lives in your Wix dashboard or editor, and the Wix help article that says so.
The settings, in order
Work down the list once. Each step names the menu, what Wix does by default and what to set.

Let search engines index your site
Dashboard > SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > SEO Settings
Wix has one switch for the whole site. If it's off, no page can appear in results, so check it first. Each page also has its own index toggle in its SEO panel.
Connect Search Console from the SEO checklist
Dashboard > SEO & GEO > SEO Setup Checklist
Connecting Google Search Console through Wix's SEO setup checklist verifies the site and submits your sitemap for you. It needs a Premium plan and your own domain.
Rewrite the default titles and descriptions
Editor > Pages & Menu > More Actions > SEO basics
By default Wix builds each title from the page name and the site name, like Home | My Site. Give every page a title of its own and a description that says what the page is for.

Edit URL slugs, then check the redirects
SEO basics > URL slug; Dashboard > SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > URL Redirect Manager
Wix adds a 301 redirect for you when you change the slug of a page, product or category, but not for Wix Blog posts, which need one by hand. Redirects only work on your own domain.

Add alt text to every image
Editor > an image > Settings > What's in the image?
Single images take alt text in their settings. In a gallery, each image's title is used as its alt text unless you change it.
Check your automatic sitemap
yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
Every Wix site has a sitemap that updates itself when the site changes. If you connected Search Console yourself rather than through the checklist, submit sitemap.xml there once.

Leave canonical tags on their defaults
A page's SEO panel > Advanced SEO
Wix gives every page, product and category a canonical tag that points to itself. Change it only when several URLs show the same page.

Add structured data where Wix doesn't
A page's SEO panel > Advanced SEO > Structured data markup
Wix adds Schema.org markup to product, blog post, event and booking pages by default. For other pages you can add your own JSON-LD in the Advanced SEO tab.

Edit robots.txt only if you need to
Dashboard > SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > Robots.txt Editor
The default robots.txt lets search engines reach every page except password-protected, members-only and noindexed ones. To hide one page, use its index toggle rather than robots.txt.

What SearchBlueprint does for a Wix site
A planning tool, not an editor: it doesn't change your Wix settings. It crawls your site and tells you which searches to go after and which page should win each one.
Try each one below, on SearchBlueprint’s own plan for its own site
1Starting from a blank list
Your keyword list, started from your own site.
Most keyword tools hand you thousands of phrases. Your plan starts from your own Wix site instead: the searches you already show up for, and the ones a site like yours could rank for.
- Your current position for each search you rank for
- Searches a site like yours could rank for, marked not ranking yet
- Monthly searches and cost per click for each keyword

2Which page gets which search
Give each search its own page.
You've watched two of your own pages chase the same search and neither win. Every keyword you confirm goes to one page. Where two pages compete, you're told which ones, and where nothing fits, the plan suggests a page to create.
- One main keyword per page, across the site
- A warning when two of your pages compete
- Pages to create, where no page answers a search

3What people ask ChatGPT
Questions to answer for ChatGPT and AI Mode.
People ask ChatGPT full questions, not two-word searches. From the keywords you pick, your plan drafts the questions a buyer might ask and ties each one to a page. You keep the ones that sound like your customers.
- Questions for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode
- Each question tied to a page
- Remove any that don't sound like your customers

4On a paid plan
A title and description for every page.
Confirm your keywords once and every page gets a title and a meta description in one list, ready to paste into each page's SEO basics panel. Your Wix site only changes when you paste them in.
- A row for every page, not just the homepage
- Based on the keywords you confirmed for each page
- New pages to consider, listed with your current ones

Publishing to Wix
Writing opens to customers in October.
The connection publishes into the site's blog with an account API key plus the site ID that scopes it to one site. Content is converted into Wix's own editor format on the way in, posts arrive as drafts by default, and once a post is live the verifier checks the public URL like any other platform. While a post is still a draft there is no public URL to check, so verification runs only after it goes live.
- 1
Create an API key
In the Wix dashboard, go to Account Settings, then API keys, and create one with blog permissions. Do it from an admin account, since access is granted at the account level.
- 2
Copy your site ID
It is visible in the dashboard URL for the site, or in the site's settings. On a multi-site account the site ID is what scopes the connection to one site, so double-check it.
- 3
Connect and test
In the project's Publishing tab, choose Wix, paste the API key and site ID, and send a test publish. Open the post in Wix's blog manager to confirm the formatting arrived intact.
Converted into Wix's own editor format
Wix's editor does not store HTML, so the connection converts each article into the structured format Wix's blog actually uses before publishing. Structure is preserved through the conversion, and the post opens in the editor as if written there.
Docs: WixA natural pair with local SEO work
Wix sites are common among small local businesses, which makes this the connection that pairs most often with the Local SEO tab.
Docs: Local and monitorPublished means the public URL answered
After every publish we fetch the public URL and record what came back. Published shows only when the page was found, a fresh 404 waits out a grace window, and a server error never concludes the page is missing.
Docs: Publish verificationArticles come off a planned calendar
Plan items on the content calendar and write them two ways: click Write on a card, or let Auto-write pick each one up at midnight on its calendar date. Both run the same researched pipeline, which drafts the article and then revises it against the content score across sweeps.
Docs: Content calendarThe connection is probed daily
A daily authentication probe runs against every connection. A failure marks it unhealthy with the cause named, authentication, permissions, or unreachable target, so you find out before the next article tries to publish into a dead connection.
Docs: Connection health
What it won’t do on Wix
Better to know before your first publish.
The connection cannot carry JSON-LD: the structured format Wix stores posts in has no place for a script tag. Add structured data in Wix's own SEO panel.
We do not set the post's cover image: Wix addresses a picture by Media Manager ID rather than URL. Set it on the post in Wix, where the images we uploaded are already waiting in the Media Manager.
Exotic embeds are simplified rather than guessed at. Check the first few posts and adjust in the editor where needed.
A draft has no public URL for the verifier to fetch, so a draft-only publish shows its verified state only after someone sets the post live in Wix. Docs: Publish verification

Questions people ask
Why does publishing fail with a permissions error?
Blog scopes are missing from the key, or the account role that created it cannot manage that site. Recreate it with blog permissions from an admin account.
Why does my draft never show as Published?
Because a Wix draft has no public URL. Verification only fetches live posts, so the state settles once someone presses publish in Wix or the connection is switched to publish live.
The site has no blog section. Can I still connect?
No. Wix must have the blog app added to the site first, otherwise there is nowhere to receive posts.
